~ Confucius Ceremony
Even
in Mainland China, today it is difficult to witness
an orthodox Confucius ceremony. Confucius is acknowledged
as the greatest teacher in Chinese history; his birthday
falls on September 28. The government designates this
day as Teachers' Day. In recognition of these important
people, we hold the ceremony on this day at six o'clock
in the morning. The principals of schools and the chiefs
of the districts of the city act as accompanying consecration
officers. The President authorizes the Minister of the
Interior to represent him in offering sacrifices to
Confucius. According to traditional practice, the Confucius
ceremony comprises displays of music and dance and presentations
of food and wine, in veneration of Confucius.
