~ Taipei New Year Party
Taipei
City Government stages a New Year's Eve party the Citizens'
Square in
front of City Hall every year where everyone gathers
to welcome in the new year. The New Year's Eve party
is always covered widely by the media. The evening features
a variety of glittering entertainment acts, the culmination
of which is when the Mayor, along with City Government
staff, counts down the last seconds of the year along
with the crowd. This once a year event is one party
not to miss.
January-Promenade
and Bazaar for the New Year Festival
With
the coming of the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival, an
important holiday when families come together to celebrate,
a splendid promenade will be on show in Tatung District
of Taipei City. The promenade is specially designed
as a comprehensive street bazaar. Visitors and local
people come to the bazaar to buy all the different kinds
of foods and decorations over the new-year period. This
area combines local culture and traditional commercial
activities and has a marvelous holiday city atmosphere.

Taipei Lantern Festival

Lantern Festival is a party which people from all over
the world attend as well as a time when Taipei citizens
visit the temple for worship. It just seems to get bigger
every year. The lanterns represent family union and
prayers for blessings. Chinese customs associated with
Lantern Festival include decorationg lanterns, carrying
them in parades and guessing lantern riddles. It is
also a time for eating stuffed dumplings, which also
signify family reunion. The 2003 Taipei Lantern Festival
continues the tradition of using ghosts as the main
lantern form, with exhibits all around the Chiang Kai-shek
Memorial Hall, hopefully heralding good luck for everyone
and bringing together friendsand family from near and
far to experience Taipei's glorious spirit.
